Dental Education

Learning about your child or teen’s dental development is key in helping them maintain a healthy smile! At Children & Teen Dental of Georgia, we are passionate about dental education. By staying up-to-date on your child or teen’s dental care, you can pave the way for a confident smile for life!

How to Properly Care for Young Smiles

Consistent, thorough at-home care is critical in maintaining a healthy smile. Brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily is recommended for all children and teens. Whenever possible, it is good to brush right after meals, especially if sugary foods are involved. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s at-home care, your child’s dentist can walk you through the best methods for caring for their teeth as they develop.

Six-Month Appointments

Dental check-ups every six months provide many benefits for your child’s oral health. These visits involve an exam and x-ray, allowing your child’s dentist to catch early signs of decay or infection. By addressing problems as they arise, your child’s dentist can help you save both time and money down the road. Consistent visits also help your child preserve their natural teeth and lay the foundation for a healthy smile!

Say ‘No’ to Tobacco

Regular tobacco use can greatly damage both teeth and gums over time. We recommend encouraging your child to “say no to tobacco” in order to keep their oral and overall health in an ideal condition. Tobacco use at an early age can cause oral cancer to develop, stain teeth, and lead to gum disease. Help your child stay healthy by encouraging them to avoid any and all tobacco products!
